FREETOWN is een nomadisch kunstproject in samenwerking met S.M.A.K. Beweegt, dat jonge kunstenaars en gemeenschappen samenbrengt op het strand van Zeebrugge tijdens de muziekfestivals WECANDANCE en Bomboclat. Het project vertrekt vanuit een fictieve, modulaire stad die jonge kunstenaars van kleur ondersteunt via performances, installaties en interventies. FREETOWN verlaat de museumcontext en zet sterk in op participatie en directe interactie met het festivalpubliek, waarbij bezoekers actief betrokken worden in het artistieke proces. De naam verwijst naar Freetown, de hoofdstad van Sierra Leone, als symbool voor vrijheid en emancipatie.

FREETOWN is a nomadic art project in collaboration with S.M.A.K. Beweegt, bringing together young artists and communities on Zeebrugge beach during the WECANDANCE and Bomboclat music festivals. The project departs from a fictional modular city that supports young artists of color through performances, installations, and interventions. Moving beyond the museum context, FREETOWN strongly emphasizes participation and direct interaction with the festival audience, actively involving visitors in the artistic process. The name refers to Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone, as a symbol of freedom and emancipation.
